Daily Bread: Faith That Blesses the Next Generation

😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:

“Because of FAITH, Isaac, looking far ahead, GIVES HIS BLESSING to Jacob and Esau. Because of FAITH, Jacob, when it was almost time to die, BLESSED Joseph’s two sons, then WORSHIPED while leaning on the head of his staff.”
(Hebrews 11:20-21 ESV)

There is a profound lesson in the faith of Isaac and the faith of Jacob: both blessed their children and grandchildren’s future.

Biblical faith is not just thinking about what God will do in our lives now; Biblical faith also believes in what God will do through the generations after us.
* Isaac blessed his children.
* Jacob blessed Joseph’s children.
They see further than their own lifespan.

Maybe today we don’t see all the answers to our prayers.
Maybe we haven’t seen a change in the family yet.
Maybe we haven’t seen our children walk the way we prayed they would.
Maybe we haven’t seen God’s promises fulfilled.

But faith doesn’t stop just because we haven’t seen the results.

Reflection:
* What are we passing on to the next generation?

Will our children and grandchildren and generations after us receive from our lives a godly testimony that:
“God is faithful.”
“God can be trusted.”
“Keep believing even though you haven’t seen.”
“Don’t stop following God when things are hard.”

Maybe we will not see all the fruits of our prayers. But we can keep praying, keep blessing, keep teaching, keep being godly examples, and keep believing.

Because we don’t live just for our present generation – We live to be channels of God’s blessings for the next generation.

And like Jacob, hopefully when we come to the end of our life’s journey, we can still say:
“I believe in God. I worship Him. And I believe He will continue His work to the generations after me.”

Prayer:
O Lord, bless me and enable me so that my life can be a godly example, an example of living in the fear of God and honoring You to my children and grandchildren. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
