Daily Bread: The Power of the Blood of Christ

God’s word today:

“But Christ came as High Priest of THE GOOD THINGS TO COME, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with HIS OWN BLOOD He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having OBTAINED ETERNAL REDEMPTION. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, HOW MUCH MORE SHALL THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, CLEANSE your CONSCIENCE from dead works TO SERVE the living God?”
‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭9‬:‭11‬-‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

“And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the ETERNAL INHERITANCE. For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and WITHOUT SHEDDING OF BLOOD THERE IS NO REMISSION.”

Hebrews 9 explains one of the greatest truths of the Christian faith: the blood of Jesus Christ accomplished what the Old Testament sacrifices could never accomplish. Though the animal sacrifices under the Old Covenant pointed forward to Christ, but they could not permanently remove sin. Jesus, our Great High Priest, fulfilled all that those sacrifices anticipated.

The Power of the Blood of Christ:
1. The Blood of Christ Obtained Eternal Redemption

The Greek word for redemption (apolutrōsis) means release by payment of a ransom. Through His blood, Jesus paid the full price to free us from:
* the guilt of sin,
* the penalty of sin,
* the slavery of sin,
* and ultimately from eternal judgment.

2. The Blood of Christ Cleanses Our Conscience

A conscience is our inner awareness before God. Sin often leaves behind:
* guilt,
* shame,
* condemnation,
* fear,
* and a sense of separation from God.

When we trust Christ, His blood cleanses not only our legal standing before God but also our conscience. We no longer need to live under continual condemnation because Christ has already borne our guilt.

Paul echoes this truth:
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

3. The Blood of Christ Frees Us from Dead Works to Serve the Living God

Dead works can include:
* sinful actions that lead to death,
* religious efforts to earn salvation,
* outward rituals without true faith,
* self-righteousness apart from Christ.

The blood of Jesus does not merely forgive us—it transforms our purpose.
*We are no longer serving God to earn His acceptance.
*We serve Him because we have already been accepted through Christ.

True Christian service should flow out of grace, not guilt.

The blood of Jesus also frees us from trying to earn God’s love. We don’t serve God to gain His acceptance; we serve because we have already received it through Christ.

Whatever your past may be, the cross declares that Jesus has paid the full price. His blood is sufficient. His redemption is eternal. His invitation remains open: come boldly into God’s presence, not because of your goodness, but because of His finished work.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
