😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:
“And He was designated by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek. Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become DULL OF HEARING.”
(Hebrews 5:10–11, NASB)
The writer of Hebrews does not say that the truth about Christ as the High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek is impossible to understand. He only says that it is “hard to explain,” while there is still much that can be taught. The problem is not with God’s Word, but with the listeners themselves: “You have become dull of hearing.”
The phrase “dull of hearing” describes:
* a heart that has become spiritually sluggish,
* spiritual ears that are no longer sensitive, and
* an attitude that is no longer eager to receive God’s Word.
A person may still attend worship services and listen to sermons, but if the heart no longer responds with faith and obedience, spiritual growth will come to a standstill. Yet God longs to lead His people into a deeper knowledge of Jesus—the Great High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek, who is our Mediator and Intercessor.
Let us examine our hearts. Do we still come to God’s Word with a genuine desire to hear it and to be transformed by it?
May the Holy Spirit soften our hearts once again, so that whenever God’s Word is proclaimed, we will not merely hear it with our ears, but respond with faith, obedience, and a growing desire to know Christ more deeply.
Prayer:
Lord, keep me from having a hardened heart and ears that are dull to hearing Your voice. Give me a renewed hunger for Your Word, so that every truth You reveal will produce spiritual growth and genuine transformation in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Bless you
