Daily Bread: Hold Firmly to Jesus, Our Great High Priest

😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

Jesus is superior to every priest who served under the Old Covenant. The phrase “WHO HAS ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN”, means more than simply going to heaven. It describes Christ’s victorious journey from earthly life into the heavenly realms after His death and resurrection. Unlike the earthly high priest who entered an EARTHLY sanctuary, Jesus entered the true HEAVENLY sanctuary (Hebrews 9:24).

Though life here on earth often brings pressure, temptation, disappointment, uncertainty, even at times believers may feel weak and wonder whether they can continue faithfully, the book of Hebrews reminds us to look away from ourselves and fix our eyes on Jesus.

Because Jesus is there in the heavenly realm, that:
* Our salvation is secure.
* Our prayers are heard.
* Our weaknesses are understood.
* Our future is certain.

Therefore, the call for us is simple: “let us HOLD FIRMLY to the FAITH we profess.”
* Do not hold on to your feelings.
* Do not hold on to your circumstances.
* Hold on to Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
I believe in Jesus the Son of God, and confess that Jesus is my Great High Priest who has ascended into the heavens and now sits at the right hand of the Father. God, help me to hold firmly to my confession of faith and to come boldly to Your throne of grace. Let me find mercy, grace, and strength in every season of life. In Your name I pray. Amen.
