Daily Bread: Resting from Our Works and Trusting God

😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:

‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬)
“For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.”

Historically, Joshua (the successor of Moses) led the Israelites into Canaan. However, many of them continued to live in unbelief, rebellion, complaining, and inner unrest. They were in the Promised Land, yet they did not experience the rest that God intended for them—a rest in which a person lives in a right relationship with God, fully trusts Him, and ceases relying on his own efforts to obtain salvation, security, and acceptance before Him.

The statement, “For whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works” does not teach laziness or the cessation of all activity. Rather, it speaks of ceasing to rely on one’s own efforts to gain salvation, acceptance, and God’s favor.

The same is true today. A person may be active in church activities, or may have been a Christian for many years, yet still live with a heart filled with fear, anxiety, and a constant effort to prove himself before God.

God invites us not merely to receive His blessings, but to enter into His rest. Ultimately, that rest is found in Christ. Through faith in Him, we enjoy peace with God now, and one day we will enter the perfect rest of His eternal Kingdom.

Prayer:
O Lord, as I walk through this life, teach me to rely on You and trust You with all my heart, and not lean on my own efforts or understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bless you
