Daily Bread: Anchored in the Word of God

😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:

“Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.”
(Hebrews 2:1–4 ESV)

“Pay Much Closer Attention, Lest We Drift Away”

At sea, a ship without an anchor can slowly drift with the current even when the waters still appear calm. The crew may not immediately realize that they have moved far from their original position. The same is true in our spiritual life.

Not many people walk away from God suddenly. Usually it begins with small neglects:
* rarely reading God’s Word,
* becoming too busy to make time for prayer,
* allowing the heart to grow cold,
* holding on to bitterness,
* listening more to the voice of the world than to the voice of God.

Just as ocean currents are always moving, the currents of this world are constantly pulling at us. If we are not intentional about anchoring our hearts and minds to the Word of God, we too will slowly drift away.

Therefore, today’s Word calls us:
* to pay closer attention to God’s Word,
* to carefully guard our hearts,
* to walk more faithfully with the Lord.

O Lord, enable me to pay careful attention to Your Word — not only to hear it on Sundays, but to let it become the anchor of my soul in daily life. Amen.

Bless you
