God’s word today:
“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us BE CAREFUL that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of NO VALUE to them, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT SHARE THE FAITH of those who obeyed.”
(Hebrews 4:1-2 NIV)
Hebrews chapter 4 conveys a very powerful message about the IMPORTANT OF FAITH IN RECEIVING GOD’s PROMISES.
Just as many pharmaceutical raw materials would have no benefit until they are combined with other ingredients, so the Word that is preached will not benefit a person unless it is mixed with faith in the heart of the one who hears it.
The people of Israel had the opportunity to enter the Promised Land, but because most of them did not believe God’s promise, they lost a very precious opportunity. Instead of receiving what God had prepared for them, they chose to focus on their fears and doubts. As a result, they missed the opportunity to experience God’s rest and the fulfillment of His promise.
As we reflect on this passage, we are reminded that a believing heart—faith—is an essential element in our relationship with God. Hearing God’s Word and promises is the first step; but the life-transforming power of God’s Word is released when it is received (mixed) with faith. God invites us not only to hear His Word but also to embrace it with confidence and trust, and to become doers of His Word.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, have mercy on me. May Your grace enable me to have faith, so that my heart will fully trust Your Word every time I hear it. Help me to receive Your promises with confidence and to walk in obedience to what You have spoken. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
