😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:
“Now BEFORE the Feast of the PASSOVER, Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.”
“So He got up from supper, laid aside His outer garment, took a towel, and tied it around His waist. Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.”
“When He had finished washing their feet, He put on His garments and returned to His place. Then He said to them, ‘Do you understand what I have done for you?’”
(John 13:1, 4–5, 12)
On the night before His suffering on the cross, Jesus was not busy defending Himself or demanding loyalty from His disciples. Instead, He took water and a towel and washed their feet—even the feet of Judas, who would betray Him. This is not merely a moral example, but a picture of the Gospel: the One who is glorious humbled Himself to cleanse sinful humanity.
This is the love of Christ: He continues to serve, even when He is not understood, even when He is hurt. He does not love only with words, but through humble action.
Often, we want to be loved, appreciated, and served. But Jesus shows a different way: true love is willing to go low, to yield, and to serve. In a world that pursues position and recognition, the disciples of Christ are called to take up the “towel and basin”—to live in humility.
When Jesus asks, “Do you understand?” (v.12), He invites His disciples to look deeper—not only to understand the act, but to grasp its meaning and imitate it. True love does not stop at feelings, but becomes humble service.
When we look at the cross, we know this: we have been loved to the very end. Amen.
And that love now flows through our lives to others. Amen.
Reflection:
Am I willing to serve others humbly—even when it is unnoticed, uncomfortable, the person seems undeserving, and no gratitude?
Be merciful to me, o Lord, and strengthen me. Amen.
Bless you
