😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to DEBAUCHERY. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”
(Ephesians 5:18)
Often people think that major sins begin with major actions. But in reality, many sins begin with small things that are allowed to enter our lives.
This verse (5:18) is not only talking about drinking wine, but about a principle of life: believers are called to stay away from anything that causes them to lose self-control and opens the door for lust (the desires of the flesh).
In the biblical context, “drunk” means:
• Losing self-control
• The mind becoming dull
• The heart easily controlled by sinful desires
The Bible strongly emphasizes self-control as a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23).
So the principle is: Anything that weakens self-control and opens the door to sin should be avoided.
Therefore, Ephesians 5:18 reminds us that a believer’s life should not be controlled by anything except the Holy Spirit. Not only wine, but also our thoughts, entertainment, relationships, and daily habits need to be guarded.
The question is not only:
“Is this a sin?”
But also:
“Does this open the door to lust?”
Lord, I want to live wisely and spiritually be sensitive to close the door before sinful desires enter. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and strengthen me to say no to things or actions which leads to debauchery, but yes to Your will, o God. Amen.
Bless you
