Daily Bread: In the Wilderness, My Soul Thirsts for You

😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:

Psalm 63 was written while David was in the Judean wilderness (‘desert of Judah), the most difficult and dangerous time of his life. In this hot, dry, and threatening place, David felt two kinds of thirst:
a thirst for the body… and a thirst for the soul.

Strikingly, David didn’t focus on his physical needs first. He said:
“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
‭‭(Psalm‬ ‭63‬:‭1‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

In the midst of danger and fear, David discovered that the deepest human need is not merely physical-needs (comfort or security), but the presence of God. The wilderness became the place where David’s longing for God’s presence was strongest.

When your life feels like a desert: dry, heavy, lonely, or exhausting, remember—the desert is not a place where God abandons you; it is a place where God reveals Himself more closely.

May the verses of Psalm 63 be a prayer during this season of “desert.”

“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”
‭‭(Psalm‬ ‭63‬:‭3‬, ‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Bless you
