😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:
“After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’””
(Matthew 4:2-4 NIV)
Fasting for just three days without food is incredibly difficult for us, but as a normal human being, Jesus fasted for 40 days. Can we imagine Jesus being emaciated, having lost perhaps 20 kg. His body trembled even when sitting, and it was probably difficult to walk because he had no more energy? Humanly speaking, He was extremely hungry.
It was at this weakest point that Satan came with the seemingly most logical temptation: “need food.”
“If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”
Meaning:
*The Devil often tempts us in our most sensitive areas: physical needs, emotions, security, and self-esteem.
*The Devil’s temptations don’t always take on a negative aspect; they are often disguised as seemingly logical ones.
But Jesus answered the temptation by speaking the word of God:
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
In his intense physical hunger, Jesus still chose to obey the Word more than to fulfill His own needs. Here Jesus teaches the true principle that:
*Man’s deepest need is not material things, not comfort, not worldly things…
*But the revelation of the Word of God, which makes us strong, steadfast, and steadily walking in God’s will.
In any struggle, let us not live without the Word. Our physical beings need physical food every day; our spiritual beings need the Word of God even more.
“O Lord, I want to live not by physical bread alone, but everyday live by Your Word.” Amen.
Bless you
