Daily Bread: Walking with God When the World Walks Away

😇 Shalom to all.
God’s word today:

“He named him NOAH and said, “He will COMFORT us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.””
‭‭(Genesis‬ ‭5‬:‭29‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

The name “Noah” is written as “son of comfort.” His father named him Noah, hoping that his son would be a comfort to him and his family.

Then, in chapter 6, we read about the state of humanity in Noah’s time, where hearts, minds, and actions were full of evil and sin. This deeply saddened God.

“The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.”
‭‭(Genesis‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

The word translated as “regretted” comes from the Hebrew word נָחַם (nacham), which does not necessarily mean “to regret because of a mistake.”
Instead, it often means “to grieve,” “to be moved,” or “to feel sorrow.”
So, God was deeply grieved because of the sin and wickedness of mankind.

It seems that Noah’s name was not only a comfort to his family, but also a comfort to God.
Why was this? Amidst the evil and moral corruption of humanity, Noah decided to live differently from the people of his time; Noah believed in a living God and had faith in Him. He lived a life of fellowship, walking faithfully with God

“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.”
‭‭(Genesis‬ ‭6‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

“By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family…”
‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

In this age, evil and moral corruption continues to increase and will even become like in the days of Noah from God’s statement in the Bible (Matthew 24:37; Luke 17:26)

O Lord, enable me to be a ‘child of comfort’, to be a follower of Jesus who pleases the heart of the Lord God in the midst of present life that is increasingly evil and morally corrupt; also become a ‘child of comfort’ for my family. Amen.

Bless you
